Time it was
and what
a time it was
it was
A time of innocence
a time of confidences.
Long ago it must be
I have a photograph
preserve your memories
they’re all that’s left you.
Simon & Garfunkel, Bookends

This song was running through my head as I tried to sleep, except I could only remember the beginning of it, up to “a time of confidences”. Now, I look at the lyrics and wonder what my brain is trying to tell me.

Earlier today, Xavi found a video labeled “MGM Studios & M.M. cartoon” and he threw it in the VCR to watch it. I thought it’d be some cartoon featuring the world’s favorite mouse. I tuned it out and continued reading my book. Two voices kept interrupting my story though. Sweetly familiar, I quickly realized that it was my paternal grandparents speaking from the video my son had put in the player. I ran to the other room to watch. I saw my grandmother wandering at MGM Studios theme park, as my grandfather did the recording. I pointed out my grandmother to Xavi, knowing full well that he had no idea who he was seeing on the tv since my grandmother died before even Jillian was born. He leaned over and snuggled me and whispered, “This is a wonderful movie, Mommy.” I didn’t know he knew the word “wonderful” but indeed it was a wonderful movie.
