I’m sure I’ll be tearing my hair out before too long, but so far it’s been fairly easy to reach (actually exceed) my daily writing goals. It’s been exciting to start with nothing, not even an idea, and have something slowly start to form on the computer screen and in my head. And even when I get stuck on something, I just keep on writing. I put down every thought that comes into my head and sooner or later, something just feels like the right direction to take. Sure, it means that when it’s time to edit this first novel of mine, I’ll be left deleting tons of author comments and musings, but it feels good to do it.
I figured if anyone was bothering to read this blog, despite the fact that it’s been nothing but word count updates for the last few days, they might enjoy seeing some of what I’m writing. So, here’s an excerpt for you:
She was lost in her thoughts as she walked down the street to her car. She didn’t pay any attention to the fact that she was crossing a street or to the shouts that were coming up from behind her. She didn’t see the car coming towards the intersection, or hear the footsteps pounding up behind her. She stepped off the curb into the street and gasped as long arms snatched her about the waist and hauled her back to the sidewalk. She was pulled up against a tall male body, trapped by the strong arms around her middle. A car streaked by in front of her, horn screaming and driver hanging out the window waving a fist at her. She watched it go by with wide eyes. She stood motionless in the stranger’s arms, in a bit of shock.
The stranger leaned down, curving his body protectively around her. She felt his breath beside her ear as his voice rumbled, “Are you ok?” She nodded, breathless, but ot as much from the fact that her life had just flashed before her eyes as from the feel of the man behind her. She was intimately aware of how his body was pressed against her, of his breath tickling against the soft skin of her neck, of his voice soft as distant thunder, vibrating through her body. She closed her eyes for a moment.
So, there ya have it…yes, it’s the beginnings of a romance novel. We’ll see what it morphs into as I write it though. lol.
