Ok, I’ve “designed” a number of websites. When I first started out, I was writing straight html. I built ‘em from scratch. You can still see these sites if you go to our family webpages (which are severely out of date). With the exception of Toph’s pages, I did all of the html on those. They are very basic, especially when compared to websites these days. They are a pain to update, thus the reason they don’t get updated very often.
I’ve started a few others for various reasons, but they weren’t what I qualify as successes. The programs I used were difficult to understand and I found the uploading, ftping and all just tedious. I don’t think I’d ever make it as a professional in website design. At least, not without some serious studying (probably including classes).
So, knowing all of that, why in the world am I trying to do another website? I’ve been asking myself this lately as I wade through ftp, shell access, designing, photshop, hosting, backups and all other stuff that goes along with this. It all makes my head hurt.
Buyer’s remorse has hit me hard and I wonder if I thought this out well enough. I think the site has a good concept, but I’m not confident of my ability to make anything of it. I’m Wallowing (see, another W word!) in the ocean of uncertainty and fear. I’m Wondering why I didn’t stick to the other route that I was considering, although there’s no one to say I can’t do both.
Well, I guess it will all work itself out sooner or later. It wouldn’t be the first time we tossed money out on trying something new only to have it flop spectacularly. I’m guessing it won’t be the last.
I’m off to study some more books, fiddle with some code, and try to figure out what the heck CSS is all about. Wish me luck!

Good luck. Sounds scary to me. Audie is the coder in our family. I like blogger cause it’s a no-brainer for folks like me!

since you’re using wp, have you looked through the existing templates people have created? you may be happier stealing something someone else wrote and modifying it.
good luck!

Yep, I’ve been looking, Jess! I think half the problem is that I haven’t settled on a color scheme I want. I’ve been playing with colors in Photoshop to figure out what I want. Once I narrow it down, I’ll look through ready made templates again.
